What we do
The Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture is responsible for fostering economic growth, pride of place, and promotion of our province. We are also responsible for providing art and culture programs, heritage conservation, grants and funding for museums, sport, arts, culture and heritage and overseeing provincial parks. We work with departments and municipalities to encourage the conservation of our cultural and heritage resources and to develop and grow our tourism products in the province.
Responsibilities
- Promoting New Brunswick as a tourism destination.
- Overseeing the 24 provincial parks and attractions.
- Providing financial assistance to the heritage, culture, arts, tourism and sport sectors.
- Developing and implementing policies and legislation related to the tourism, arts, culture, heritage, parks and sport sectors.
- Conservation and maintenance of heritage sites, buildings, and landmarks.
- Supporting artistic and cultural initiatives, including funding for festivals, events, and community arts programs.
- Managing New Brunswick’s archaeological heritage including issuing permits and overseeing archaeological research, collection management and archaeological assessment and impact mitigation.
- Managing toponymic resources and the naming of places or geographic areas in the province.
- Providing strategic leadership and support to strengthen the sport and recreation system resulting in increased opportunities for active living in New Brunswick.
Priorities
- Increase tourism in all regions of the province.
- Preserve and promote the cultural heritage of New Brunswick.
- Support museums and galleries through grants, collections management, and professional development initiatives.
- Encourage New Brunswickers to explore NB provincial parks.
