Community museums assistance program pre-application checklist

Our organization:

Is a registered non-profit organization
Is based in New Brunswick
Owns a permanent collection of artifacts
Owns or holds a long-term lease for the building in which the museum is housed
Is open to the public for at least ten (10) weeks per year [1]
Meets Archaeology and Heritage Branch’s definition of a “museum” [2]
Follows an approved Collections Management Policy (including Acquisition Policy)

[1] The museum must be open to the public at least ten (10) consecutive weeks per year. A week is counted when the museum is open a minimum of five (5) days and six (6) hours per day.

[2] A “museum” is a “non-profit community institution which acts as a custodian to maintain, conserve, study, and interpret a permanent collection of heritage resources.” These resources may be objects or historical data. Such an organization holds its collection in trust for the public. It tries to ensure that the community derives maximum benefit from the collection it holds.

Prior to submitting the application, we have/are:

Read through the program guidelines in their entirety
Noted the program deadline of April 15th and understand that an incomplete application will not be considered until all other applications have been reviewed and processed. Late applications may not be accepted.
Contacted Archaeology and Heritage Branch to clarify any outstanding questions
Completed all sections of the most current version of the application form located on the website, and included attachments when indicated
Submitted (with the current application or since 2020) a copy of our organization’s by-laws and Collections Management Policy, including Acquisition Policy
Ensured that all sections of the provided Excel spreadsheet have been filled out properly and included with the submission
Ensured that the application form is signed by someone with signing authority for the organization
Aware that only applications submitted to [email protected] will be accepted for review
