Description
This program is designed to support historical societies by covering some costs associated with producing and sharing periodicals that highlight New Brunswick’s history. Its goal is to strengthen the capabilities of eligible organizations, helping them grow and develop for the benefit of their communities, other New Brunswick residents and visitors interested in local history.
The program can be used to:
- promote the publication and distribution of periodicals such as bulletins and magazines that contain studies or research reports showcasing various aspects of cultural heritage in New Brunswick
- launch a new heritage project
Deadline
Organizations wishing to apply must fill out the appropriate form and send all requested documents no later than April 15 of the request year. Late or incomplete applications may not be accepted or may not be considered until all other grants have been assessed, potentially resulting in a reduced grant amount or no funding, depending on budget availability. If you expect a late or incomplete application, discuss this with the project officer before the deadline.
Level of funding
The grant is based on the previous year’s grant and the strength and merit of the application, with project funding not exceeding 50 per cent of the project’s total cost, up to $5,500 annually.
Eligibility
Applications under this program are limited to non-profit organizations based in New Brunswick and incorporated as a non-profit organization under the Companies Act.
To benefit from the program, the organization must:
- publish a periodical with cultural and heritage content that has a minimum circulation of 100 copies per issue and whose themes relate to New Brunswick heritage
- have already published at least three issues and have a regular publishing program that includes not less than six titles during the last three years
- produce electronic newsletters or online publications in the most appropriate format (PDF, HTML, EPUB) to communicate using an electronic mailing list or through a document accessible on your website
- when applicable, adhere to the standards set by the Canadian Council of Archives and follow the recommendations and guidelines of the Canadian Conservation Institute
Organizations which receive a Community Museums Assistance Program grant from the Archaeology and Heritage Branch OR a grant under the Book and Publishing Development Program administered by the Arts and Culture Branch are not eligible.
