Indigenous Affairs Grants Program

A grant for small-scale and not-for-profit Indigenous projects.

Overview

The Indigenous Affairs Grants Program funds small-scale and not-for-profit Indigenous projects, initiatives, or events of a social, cultural and educational nature.

Funding ranges from $250 to $5,000 as follows:

  • Hosting a workshop/conference (in province) – up to 25% of total cost to a maximum of $2,500 
  • Attending a workshop/conference – up to 25% of total cost to a maximum of $500 
  • Powwow/festival/gathering – up to 25% of total cost to a maximum of $1,000
  • Cultural awareness – up to 25% of total cost to a maximum $1,000 
  • Other - Between $250 - $5,000

Eligibility

All projects/events must be supported by a First Nation community or an Indigenous organization. 

Applicants:

  • must be 18 or older
  • must be currently registered with a First Nation community (Status) and reside in New Brunswick, OR a First Nation community OR they must be applying on behalf of an Indigenous organization
  • have a least one other source of funding or in-kind support
  • are limited to one submission per year per category

Upon completion of the project or event for which a grant has been provided, the recipient is required to provide a final report within 30 days summarizing and evaluating the project or event. The report must include a financial statement that lists all revenues and expenditures.

Apply

  • Complete the Grant Application (PDF 236 KB) and send it to the Department of Indigenous Affairs. 
  • The application is reviewed and evaluated for compliance, funding levels and eligibility of activity. The review process may take two to three weeks once the fully completed application is received with the supporting documentation.
  • A recommendation is made to senior management, and funding is authorized or rejected.
  • If approved, a Letter of Offer specifying the conditions of approval for financial support is forwarded to the applicant for review and acceptance. A signed copy of the letter must be returned. 
  • If rejected, a Letter of Notification is forwarded to the applicant stating the reason for the application’s rejection.
  • Funds are released according to specified conditions of approval as indicated. 
  • The funds will be forwarded within 30 days following completion of all procedures.
