Overview

The province of New Brunswick has a population of 850,000. At the time of the 2021 Census, Francophones made up 30.0% of the province’s population, compared to 31.4% in 2016. This 1.4% decline in the Francophone population, despite considerable efforts made by the provincial government to promote demographic growth in the Francophone community, is an important indicator of the need for additional support from both parties under the Canada-New Brunswick Agreement on French-Language Services.
