Written and road tests for driver’s licences

Driver examiners, working from various Service New Brunswick Centres across the province, test qualified people wishing to obtain a new driver's licence or to upgrade their existing licence.

Written tests (class 7.1 learners permit, motorcycle, moped)

• Road Sign Recognition Exam
• Rules of the Road Non-Commercial Knowledge Exam
• Rules of the Road Motorcycle/Motor Driven Cycle Knowledge Exam     

These written tests can be taken online. Online payment options are:

• credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)
• debit card (Visa or MasterCard)
• interac online (only available with TD Canada Trust)

Once paid, an access code will be issued to attempt each test. Access codes may be saved for later use.

If you pass all these tests, you must wait a minimum of four business days, then go to any SNB office (except Campobello) to complete a vision test.  You will need to provide:

• proof of identification
• proof of residency
• a completed Parental Consent Form (PDF 66 KB) (if under 18)
• for motorcycles, proof of completion of a motorcycle course

If you don’t pass, you’ll need to purchase a retest for the test(s) you didn't pass. Try again whenever you're ready, there's no waiting period to retake a test.

• Air Brake Knowledge and Diagram Exam (if applicable)

Testing for different classes of licences are available at various locations. When booking your appointment, you will choose the qualified location nearest you.

All appointment types, including written tests delivered orally, can also be made by telephone through Service New Brunswick's Teleservices at 1-888-762-8600 (within North America) and 1-506-684-7901 (outside North America). Testing is available in both official languages.
