Overview
The Anderson Bridge, which spans the Northwest Miramichi River in Miramichi, opened to traffic in 1953. The bridge is part of the Route 8 network, which industry, residents, tourists and businesses use heavily. It's a key link connecting the province's northern and southern regions.
In 2016, due to deterioration the bridge was reduced to one lane with traffic lights on both sides. Construction started on the replacement in 2020. The bridge foundations and steel structure were completed in the fall of 2022. A second contract for the bridge deck and approaches was tendered in early 2023.
The new bridge, anticipated to open by end of fall of 2025, is designed to have a lifespan of about 75 years.
