Overview
CESA is a program run by the Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB) that helps students obtain an adult secondary diploma. Courses are flexible and tailored to the needs of learners.
The program is offered at five locations: Bathurst, Campbellton, Caraquet, Dieppe and Edmundston. It has a maximum duration of 74 weeks.
Admission requirements
To enter the CESA program, applicants must:
- have completed grade 8 or its equivalent
- be at least 18 years old or turn 18 during the enrollment year
- have been out of public school for at least one year
Candidates receiving home education must:
- have completed grade 8 or its equivalent
- be at least 16 years old or turn 16 during the enrollment year
- submit a copy of the Minister’s letter to parents allowing exemption from public school
These requirements are the same as for the DESPA program.
Courses
There are nine curriculum pathways for students to choose from:
- metals, construction and cabinetry
- commerce and office work
- art and culture
- mechanics and maintenance
- personal care
- health care
- human, social and community techniques
- hospitality, catering and tourism
- driving, operations and natural resources
Once the student chooses their curriculum pathway, nine key competencies are expected:
- writing
- computer literacy
- teamwork
- continuing education
- reading
- verbal communication
- document management
- calculation
- ability to reason
The courses in the program are evaluated based on the achievement of competencies. Students must obtain a score of at least 80% in a given competency to pass. Student progress is monitored using a logbook.
Each course has a fee of $300.
