Overview
Linguistic Services offers oral, reading and writing language proficiency evaluations in both English and French. These services are available at cost to provincial government departments, agencies, organizations, institutions and members of the public.
Evaluation
The Oral Language Proficiency Evaluation assesses a person’s overall ability to communicate in English or French. The evaluation is carried out during the course of a 20-to-40-minute telephone conversation with a certified evaluator. The confidential telephone conversation is recorded for quality control purposes.
Oral language skills are graded on a nine-point oral language proficiency scale.
The Reading Language Proficiency Evaluation assesses proficiency in reading comprehension and the Writing Language Proficiency Evaluation assesses proficiency in writing in English or French.
