Requirements to study in New Brunswick
Study permit
For studies lasting over six months, you will need a valid study permit. To apply, you must be accepted by a recognized Canadian school, college, or university and satisfy all other requirements.
Health insurance
All foreign students are required by law to have valid health insurance during their stay. In New Brunswick, coverage might vary by institution students should check directly with their college or university about options and how to enroll.
International students who meet the eligibility criteria can receive New Brunswick Medicare coverage.
Temporary Resident Visa
Depending on your citizenship, a Temporary Resident Visa may be required to enter Canada. This is a document placed in your passport by a Canadian visa office once you’ve met the requirements to visit Canada as a student.
Working while studying
Working on campus
International students studying full-time can work on campus without a work permit. This could include working at the library, student union or other campus areas.
Working off campus
Eligible international students at participating post-secondary institutions can work off campus without a work permit. You are allowed to work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during school breaks.
After graduation
After graduating in Canada, international students may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit, which allows you to work in Canada for up to three years.

Scholarships for international applicants
Funding is available for international students, researchers and faculty to study or conduct research in Canada. These awards are open to individuals at all academic levels.
Financial assistance for protected persons
Individuals in Canada with protected person status, including refugees and those granted asylum, may be eligible for financial aid. Funding is available to help cover the cost of postsecondary education and training.
