Camping on Crown lands

Camping on Crown lands is permitted for short periods, provided campers follow specific rules to protect the land and wildlife. Crown lands in New Brunswick are shared public spaces managed for recreation, conservation and resource use. Responsible camping helps ensure these lands remain safe and accessible for everyone. Camping is allowed on Crown lands for a limited time, if campers respect environmental protections, access requirements and safety rules. Failure to comply may result in enforcement action.

When camping on Crown lands:

• recreational vehicles (RVs), including travel trailers, truck campers, hard-top trailers, homemade trailers and other trailers, may not be set up within 75 metres of the shoreline of a waterway
• this setback does not apply to tent camping
• RVs may be set up only in remote areas where licensed campgrounds do not exist
• it is illegal to discharge wastewater on Crown lands or into a waterway
• RVs must be equipped with appropriate sewage and grey water holding systems
• access must not be restricted to roads, trails, waterways or other Crown lands
• use Crown lands and associated resources at your own risk and plan and act accordingly
• respect the rights of other Crown lands users
• do not cut or remove trees or natural vegetation without a permit
• respect all plants and animals including fish and their habitat
• carry out or remove everything you bring to a site
• leave a site in the same condition that you found it in

Violations may result in an order to remove an RV or tent from Crown lands. Failure to comply can lead to court action and restrictions on future use.

Camping may also be prohibited in certain Crown lands areas due to environmental, health, or safety concerns. These sites will be clearly posted.
