Advanced exploration and fees

Claim holders wishing to conduct advanced exploration on mineral claims may require additional approvals beyond a Form 18 under the Mining Act depending on the scope of work involved. Advanced exploration includes underground exploration tunneling, shaft sinking, and larger scale excavation work. The scope of such work could require registration of the project under EIA depending on the environmental impacts and reclamation security or damage security may be required. Companies wishing to undertake advanced exploration or bulk sampling should contact the Recorder for guidance on regulatory requirements.

Mineral reports of work

Reports of Work (commonly called mineral assessment reports) are exploration reports completed by prospectors and industry on their mineral claims. They are received and processed by the Resource Development Branch and kept for a confidential period of two years from the date of submission. These reports are made public once the confidential period is finished or once all claims in a report have lapsed or were surrendered. A claim holder may decide to make a report of work public upon submission to the Recorder.

Currently, the province holds over 8,000 assessment reports, most of which are available in a digital format. Some large reports were scanned into smaller files to reduce file size.
