Overview
The program helps low-income households find affordable and suitable rental housing in rural communities. It also helps eligible off-reserve Indigenous households obtain affordable and suitable housing in rural communities with a population of less than 2,500.
Subsidized rental accommodations are provided to those whose income is below the established income ceilings. Tenants who qualify through the program will have their rents reduced to 30% of the adjusted household income.

Applicants are chosen based on demonstrated need.
Other criteria
You must also be in at least one of the following situations:
- you live in crowded or inadequate housing
- you pay less than 30% of your household income for rent, but adequate housing in your area would cost 30% or more of your income
- you pay 30% or more of your household income for rent, and adequate housing in your area would cost 30% or more of your income
