Overview
- Process to become an age-friendly community approved by the municipal council in December 2014.
- Age-Friendly Steering Committees created in 2004, 2008, and 2009.
- First International Day of Older Persons reception organized by the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Aging in 2006.
- Survey on the needs of seniors conducted in 2012, in collaboration with the University of Moncton and Mount Allison University. 370 copies of the survey distributed and 289 responses from seniors in total.
- Launch of the Age-Friendly Business Program and unveiling of the “age-friendly” logo in June 2011.
- Development of a five-year age-friendly community action plan based on the results of the survey on the needs of seniors, which was approved by the city council in December 2014.
- Application submitted to join the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in December 2014.
- Joined the WHO Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities in March 2015.
- Launched a series of coffee talks for seniors in 2015 to inform them about important issues. Created an email distribution list for seniors in 2016.
- Senior symposium organized by the Mayor's Senior Advisory Committee in 2012, 2016, and 2017.
- Continued implementation of the five-year action plan for the age-friendly community.
- Annual organization of two to three orientation sessions for age-friendly businesses, an Age-Friendly Business Day, and a ceremony to renew the certification of age-friendly businesses.
- Continued annual organization of a reception for International Day of Older Persons.
