Birth certificates and related

Birth certificate
The Vital Statistics Branch registers births and provides certificates of births that have occurred in the province.

Authorized users can order birth certificates for their clients and receive rapid confirmation of names to fulfill land title transactions.
Birth registration
Every child born in New Brunswick must be registered within 14 days of the birth.

Change of name
To legally change either name on your birth certificate, contact the Vital Statistics Branch.
Change of sex designation
If you are 16 or older, you may apply to have a change of sex designation on your birth certificate.

Death certificates
The Vital Statistics Branch provides certificates for deaths that have occurred in the province.
Death registration
If a person dies in New Brunswick, the death must be registered with Vital Statistics.

Civil officiants
A civil officiant may solemnize civil marriage ceremonies throughout the province.
