Overview
If you give birth in the hospital
The Bundled Birth Service is offered in all birthing hospitals in the province. You will be given a Registration of Birth Package during your stay in hospital. You must complete the Registration of Birth form before your baby leaves the hospital. When you complete the form you can apply for the following services at the same time:
- The baby's Social Insurance Number (SIN) with Service Canada
- Canada Child Benefits (CCB) with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
If you do not give birth in the hospital
You must still register your baby’s birth with the Vital Statistics Branch. If your child is one year or younger you may still take advantage of the Bundled Birth Service. If more than a year goes by before a birth registration document is filed, then:
- a Delayed Registration of Birth will have to be filed
- evidence of the birth will have to be produced
- there will be a fee for the delayed filing
