Death registration

If a person dies in New Brunswick, the death must be registered with Vital Statistics.

Overview

Death registration creates a legal record of death, which makes it possible to issue a death certificate to survivors. A death certificate may be required to apply for benefits or insurance, and to complete administrative tasks related to the settling of the estate.

Service New Brunswick provides an electronic tool for the purpose of registering a death, however, it is only available to funeral homes, coroners, medical practitioners and nurse practitioners.
