Overview
Virtual Care NB is now the province's new integrated access point for virtual health services.
You should contact your primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner) first for your health-care needs.
If you do not have a primary care provider OR your provider is unavailable for issues that cannot wait, Virtual Care NB can offer clinical care for your health needs.
Virtual Care NB can assess and treat many common, non-urgent illnesses, injuries, infections and general health concerns. This helps ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time, while maintaining access to virtual care services across the province.
How to access Virtual Care NB
To determine if virtual care can help, you need to:
Use the symptom checker – if virtual care is the right care for you, this will allow you to book a Virtual Care NB appointment. This is a required step to access Virtual Care NB.
OR
Call Tele-Care 811 and speak to a registered nurse. They can:
- assess your symptoms
- determine the best care option
- connect you to the appropriate services, including booking a Virtual Care NB appointment, if recommended
Scheduled appointments with Virtual Care NB can be booked on the same day or the next day. You can participate in the appointment using a telephone, cell phone, computer or tablet. Video, telephone and chat consultation options are available.
No account or specific mobile app is required to access Virtual Care NB.
Before your Virtual Care NB appointment, you must have:
- completed the symptom checker assessment or have been assessed by a Tele-Care nurse
- have valid New Brunswick Medicare card
- be physically located in New Brunswick at the time of the appointment
- be 16 years of age or older (if you are less than 16 years of age, an adult must book your appointment and be present during the virtual consultation with the practitioner)
If a nurse practitioner reviews your appointment details and determines your health concern would be better addressed through another type of care, you will be notified and provided with information on the appropriate next steps.
Appointments for children and dependents (i.e. a guardian)
You can complete the symptom checker assessment and book a Virtual Care NB appointment on behalf of a child or dependent. However, during the appointment, you and the individual for whom the consult is intended will both need to be present.
When booking an appointment for someone else, you will enter the patient’s information.
