Cancer epidemiology and Cancer Registry

How cancer information is used to understand the burden of cancer in the province.

Overview

Cancer epidemiology describes the distribution, determinants, and frequency of cancer disease in specific populations.

Information on all new cancer diagnoses and cancer deaths is collected, managed and reported through the New Brunswick Provincial Cancer Registry. This registry provides timely and high quality information on the burden of cancer in the province, which is used to support patient care, health care planning and delivery, evaluation of screening programs, research and the Cancer System Performance Initiative of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. The registry is also responsible for data submissions to other national and international cancer care organizations to support statistical and epidemiological research in Canada and internationally.

The New Brunswick Cancer Registry is certified by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries  and maintains a Gold Standard for registry certification .
