Training and other resources for providing palliative care.

LEAP Training

The Department of Health began a three-year licensing agreement with Pallium Canada to expand and improve access to quality palliative care training opportunities in New Brunswick’s health care system in both official languages in 2024.

Pallium Canada provides Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP™) courses, considered a gold standard for palliative and end-of-life care education for health-care organizations and professionals in Canada. This education equips health-care providers by enhancing their ability to deliver a palliative approach to care for patients with life-limiting illness. It is delivered by local, experienced facilitators who understand the New Brunswick population’s health-care needs.

Eligibility

Training is provided at no cost to a number of health-care providers in regional health authorities, the EMP/ANB and the Department of Social Development, part of the Provincial Palliative Care Strategy’s Professional Capacity pillar in developing competencies for the provision of the person-centered, coordinated and integrated palliative care services.

At this time, the licensing agreement with the Department of Health for LEAP training covers the cost of registration for:

  • a number of health care workers delivering palliative care services working within the provincial health care system as employees of the RHAs, EMP and Social Development
  • health-care workers delivering palliative care services in Residential Hospices with funding agreements with the DH
