Drug submission requirements

Manufacturers can request to have a drug product listed on the New Brunswick Drug Plans Formulary.

Overview

Brand and generic drug products are eligible for inclusion in the NB Drug Plans Formulary if they meet certain criteria.

Brand drugs

Brand drug submission requirements are outlined in the procedures of the respective Drug review processes.

Brand drug submissions are only accepted electronically by email or secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Submissions on USB flash drive or CD/DVD are not accepted.

1. To submit via email:

  • send submission to [email protected]
  • do not copy NB Drug Plans officials or staff
  • subject line of email must be formatted as follows –  
    ‘Submission: Brand Name for Indication’
  • file attachments must be compressed or zipped
  • individual emails must not exceed 35MB
  • if multiple emails are required for a single submission, the subject line must also include numbering (i.e., part X of X)
  • file names cannot contain special characters, including & " ? * : < > | # { } % ~ \ /

2. To submit via secure FTP:

  • send instructions for accessing and downloading submission to [email protected]
  • do not copy NB Drug Plans officials or staff 
  • subject line of email must be formatted as follows – 
    ‘Submission: Brand Name for Indication’
  • file names cannot contain special characters, including & " ? * : < > | # { } % ~ \ /

Generic drugs

Submissions to have a generic drug product listed in the NB Drug Plans Formulary, must include all items specified in the Generic Drug Submission Requirements (PDF 74 KB).

A copy of the Submission Summary Form and Unrestricted Sharing of Information letter template may be obtained by emailing [email protected].

Manufacturers will be asked to re-send submissions that have missing requirements or include unnecessary information.

Formulary listing decisions

Drugs that have complete submissions and prices confirmed by the last working day of a month will be eligible for inclusion in the following month’s NB Drug Plans Formulary Update bulletin. 

Formulary updates of generic drug product additions and changes are issued the last week of every month, except in December when it is issued mid-month.
