Member claims

Required information for members to submit receipts for reimbursement.

Overview

A pharmacy must be registered with the New Brunswick Drug Plans as a participating provider to submit claims online for payment.

When it is not possible for a member to have their drug claim submitted directly to the New Brunswick Drug Plans by the pharmacy, members are required to pay the total cost of their prescription and may submit their official receipt to the New Brunswick Drug Plans.

Submission requirements

If a member paid for their prescription, they may submit the receipt to the New Brunswick Drug Plans for reimbursement. The following requirements must be met:

  • the member must have active drug coverage with the New Brunswick Drug Plans on the date that the drug is dispensed
  • the prescription was filled in Canada (prescriptions filled at pharmacies outside of Canada are not eligible for reimbursement)
  • the drug is listed as a benefit in the New Brunswick Drug Plans Formulary
  • requests for reimbursement must be made within one year of the date the prescription was filled
  • only official prescription receipts issued by the pharmacy will be accepted (cash register, credit card receipts or invoices from a doctor’s office will not be accepted)
  • all relevant policies and reimbursement criteria are met

The plan identification number must be written on the receipt. The receipt may be sent by mail or fax to:

New Brunswick Drug Plan
PO Box 690
Moncton, NB

Fax: 1-888-455-8322

Payment

Once the claim has been processed, members are notified by mail of the decision and mailed a cheque with the amount approved for payment.

Payment for a prescription will be made in accordance with dispensing fee and drug cost reimbursement policies. If a pharmacy is not registered as a participating provider, it may charge a member a higher amount for a prescription than the plans will reimburse.
