Overview
Firefighter certification is not a mandatory requirement to become a firefighter in New Brunswick. It does, however, allow applicants to be tested against standards that are recognized in other provincial, territorial and international jurisdictions.
Firefighters who aspire to obtain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) certification through the New Brunswick Firefighter Certification Program must satisfy the program requirements, which are based on National Fire Protection Association standards, and must be tested for competency.
