Sheriff services

These officers provide an enforcement role in the province’s court system.

Overview

Sheriff Services officers, including the sheriff and deputy sheriffs, are designated peace officers. They provide security at courthouses, escort persons in custody, execute court orders, serve important court documents, and manage potential juror selections. They are sometimes called on to assist other enforcement agencies at special events or to help in responding to emergencies. Officers are also responsible for the enforcement of money judgements, and document service and execution of orders.

They work with court stenographers, Crown prosecutors, judges, and correctional officers to ensure court proceedings run smoothly and safely.

Sheriff Services staff operate in eight regional offices strategically located throughout New Brunswick. Anyone may ask Sheriff Services staff to assist them in executing a court order or serving a document.
