Overview

The Small Claims Court hears actions for debt, damages, and/or the return of personal property for an amount up to $20,000. Claims are heard by a hearing officer and the process is somewhat less formal than regular court processes.

Solicitors or self-represented litigants who are parties to proceedings in the Small Claims Court in any of the eight judicial districts in New Brunswick shall pay the appropriate fees to the clerk for filing documents and services rendered, pursuant to Subsection 71(1) of the General Regulation under the Small Claims Act.
