Transcripts

Most court proceedings are recorded. Audio recordings of proceedings may be requested subject to section 14 of the Recording of Evidence Act. A transcript of the proceedings may be requested by solicitors of record, parties to the action, members of the public, boards, commissions, or arbitrators. The Court Services Branch prepares transcripts for all criminal and family matters.

When requesting a transcript of a court proceeding, a Request for Transcript Form (PDF 469 KB) is required. Upon receipt of this form by the appropriate court region and level of court, a transcript will be prepared. A transcript will not be released until payment is received in full for the transcript.

Note: Public requests for transcripts require a 70% deposit of the estimated total cost before transcript preparation can begin. The estimate is calculated based on approximately one page per minute of recorded proceedings.  As the final cost may differ, any overpayment will be refunded.

Transcripts of civil proceedings are prepared by authorized private-sector stenographers who have successfully completed the examination requirements prescribed under the Recording of Evidence Act.
