Class PPO and PTO compressed gas licences

Overview

Class PPO and PTO Compressed Gas Licences authorize holders to fill containers, transfer propane, or operate propane trucks.

Eligibility

To obtain a PPO-2 Propane Plant Operator Licence, applicants must have eight hours of experience under a PPO-2 licence holder and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board (PGAC 100-1). This licence authorizes the holder to fill containers at a container refill center and fill any permanently mounted container on a mobile vehicle. 

To obtain a PPO-1 Propane Plant Operator Licence, applicants must have 300 hours of experience under a Class PPO-1 licence holder and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board. This licence authorizes the holder to transfer propane to and from storage tanks, tank cars, cargo liners, tank trucks and operator propane transfer equipment at a filling plant or container refill centre. 

To obtain a PTO-2 Propane Truck Operator Licence, applicants must hold the appropriate class of driver's licence, as required under the Motor Vehicle Act, must have 150 hours of experience under a Class PTO-2 licence holder, and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board. This licence authorizes the holder to operate a vehicle that tows a propane cargo liner and equipment to transfer propane to and from a cargo liner. 

To obtain a PTO-1 Propane Truck Operator Licence, applicants must hold the appropriate class of driver's licence, as required under the Motor Vehicle Act, must have 150 hours of experience under a Class PTO-1 licence holder, and must complete a training program and examination which is acceptable to the Gas Board. This licence authorizes the holder to operate a propane truck and to operate equipment to transfer propane to and from a tank truck.
