Plumbing plan approvals

Learn which plumbing plans require approval before installation. 

Overview

Plan reviews are required for plumbing installations having more than 30 fixtures or at the inspector’s discretion.

Eligibility

Plumbing contractors are required to submit three copies of the plumbing plans to the chief plumbing inspector. 

Plumbing plans must show, in detail, the location and size of every building drain, trap, cleanout, fitting, soil-or-waste pipe, vent pipe and layout of potable water distribution system, including pipe sizes and valves. 

Plumbing plans should reflect the means and devices which will be used to address cross connections with potable water supplies. The plans should also meet the fire safety and fire stopping requirements of the National Building Code of Canada. 

No fees are associated with submitting a plumbing plan for approval.
