Overview
New Brunswick issues angling leases through public auctions which grant exclusive access to angle on certain stretches of Crown-owned waters. These leases balance recreational access, conservation and the economic value of some of the province’s most prized fish.
Under the Fish and Wildlife Act, angling leases are issued for a ten-year term. The lease must be awarded to the highest bidder at a public auction, advertised in the Royal Gazette and meeting a minimum price.
Please note: No lodges, buildings or other infrastructure are included or guaranteed as part of the lease. Lessees may need to apply for a Licence of Occupation to maintain existing warden camps and must arrange for their own access to the lease area. In some cases, sites may only be reachable by boat or four-wheel drive vehicle.

Successful bidders
Successful bidders must pay the first year’s rent (their winning bid plus 15% HST) immediately following the auction. In addition, there is a registration fee of $85 per Parcel Identification Number (PID) and/or per document. Lessees are also responsible for property taxes, assessed separately by Service New Brunswick.
All lessees are required to employ assistant conservation officers to support conservation and protection efforts. There is a maximum number of "rods per day" on each lease.
Crown angling leases are subject to Aboriginal and Treaty rights, which may include hunting, fishing, trapping, harvesting, and ceremonial practices.
